Electric scooters use only a fraction of these chemicals. The most common lithium-ion batteries in electric scooters include:
Lithium Manganese (INR, NMC)
INR batteries are considered one of the safest chemistries and are characterized by high storage capacity and current output. The manganese in the battery lowers the internal resistance, allowing current to flow while maintaining an optimal temperature. This helps prevent thermal runaway and explosions even at high current outputs.
Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP)
LFP batteries, while more expensive, last longer and are much safer. They are suitable for devices that require high load current and durability, such as electric scooters.
Lithium Polymer (LiPo)
This type of lithium-ion battery comes in a pouch form rather than the typical cell form found in most e-scooter batteries. Their small, flat shape makes them ideal for portable electronics, including electric scooters.
